Inter-Specific Hybridization in Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) for Crop Improvement

چکیده
Interspecific hybridization has contributed significantly to land diversity, species evolution, and crops’ domestication, including upland cotton, the cultivated form of Gossypium hirsutum. Being world’s most important fiber crop species, hirsutum belongs allotetraploid consisting six additional tetraploid species. The lint evolved once in diploid parent A-genome Gossypium’s history passed on during with D-genome was maintained subsequent evolution. domestication G. involved collection use fibers by indigenous people for purpose making strings other textile products; hence, spinnable were likely have under domestication. Crossing barbadense resulted development multiple genetic lines contemporary cotton. However, later-generation hybrids between polyploid reproductive barriers such as reduced fertility, segregation distortion, hybrid breakdown are frequently observed, complicating task introgressing new, stably inherited allelic variation from inter-specific hybridization. Recent efforts molecular genetics research provided insights into location effects QTLs wild that associated traits cotton production. These future will undoubtedly provide tools can be utilized plant breeders access novel genes domesticated improvement.

Evaluation of Brevibacillus brevis as a potential plant growth promoting rhizobacteria for cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) crop
The present investigation was undertaken to isolate, screen and evaluate a selected promising PGPR Brevibacillus brevis on cotton crop. Out of 156 bacterial isolates one of the most promising isolate was analyzed for the various PGP traits. A seed germination analysis was conducted with cotton seeds to evaluate the potential of the isolate to promote plant growth. The bacterial isolate was chec...
متن کاملSubgenome-specific markers in allopolyploid cotton Gossypium hirsutum: implications for evolutionary analysis of polyploids.
We developed a set of genetic markers specific to the A and D genome types of cotton using representational difference analysis (RDA). These markers produce amplification products with genomic DNA from allotetraploid cotton Gossypium hirsutum. One of the markers is a polymorphic amplified restriction fragment (PARF) - a sequence found in both A and D genomes but differently flanked by restricti...
متن کاملInfraspecific DNA methylation polymorphism in cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.).
Cytosine methylation is important in the epigenetic regulation of gene expression and development in plants and has been implicated in silencing duplicate genes after polyploid formation in several plant groups. Relatively little information exists, however, on levels and patterns of methylation polymorphism (MP) at homologous loci within species. Here we explored the levels and patterns of met...
متن کاملSpodoptera exigua modulates gossypol biosynthesis in cotton Gossypium hirsutum
Cotton plants induce high levels of gossypol in response to herbivore damage. However, little is known about the mechanisms by which insect herbivory modulates gossypol biosynthesis in cotton plants. Here, we report the mechanism by which herbivore damage or insect-originated elicitors modulate the biosynthesis of gossypol and jasmonic acid (JA) in plants. Spodoptera exigua larval-damaged (HD) ...
